The first thing I would need to carry out my GAME plan for 2c is multiple sources of data on my classified students. I would need to analyze to see where their strengths lie and where the deficinies are. While doing this I will need to research by obtaining articles, talking with the computer facilitator, case managers and other "experts" to figure what is available for me to use to address those strengths and weakness that I find. If trainings are available that would be an additional resource to utilize. So far I have gather multiple sources of data on my students and began to form a picture of them. I have also reached out to my case manager about speech to text software that may be useful for one of my students who has severe gaps in her reading and writing.
For my 3b goal there are little resources that I physically need to acquire. The most important resource would be self-generated, the parent survey. The only other information I would use for this is websites of my colleagues and other teachers out of district. I have visited a few colleague's websites, but honestly, I have done little else towards this goal at this time. It is an overwhelming time of year here in NJ... we have conferences, report cards and special ed reports all occuring simultaneously and I have not had time to create a survey.

Isn't it amazing how everything seems to be due at exactly the same time! It seems to be the story of a teacher's life.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest that when it comes to adding to your website that you start slow. I had to create a site for an undergraduate class where I had to include resources for a lesson I created. As I began to play around with building the site, I found new ideas and ways I could add other information. I looked through other sites as well to see what I would like my site to eventually include. I even have a favorites folder on my computer is teacher-created sites to reference often.
I like your idea of involving parents with the parent survey. Creating this survey would let you know what parents would use the website for and just might help you shorten your workload. Placing unnecessary items on your page would only slow the download process. Good luck!
Special Education is one of the areas where technology can be most beneficial because it can give those students the ability to succeed in areas where they might have been unable to do so without technology. Much like the story of Hillary from our reading (Cennamo, Ross, & Ertmer, 2009) who had several severe learning disabilities including a difficulty with reading and writing, technology can give Exceptional Children opportunities they would not have otherwise. In Hillary's case she was able to stay in a regular school and become a regular intelligent teenager instead of a misfit who did not fit in regular education.
ReplyDeleteAre there any special education/technology magazines or journals that would have some good ideas for how technologies can be used for children with certain classified students?
